John Sigmier

John earned an A.B. in Classics and Anthropology from Harvard in 2012, and an M.St. in Classical Archaeology from Exeter College, Oxford in 2013. His research interests include architecture and urbanism, Roman provincial archaeology, ancient knowledge networks and information exchange, and digital approaches to architectural survey. He has worked at archaeological sites in Tunisia, Greece, Israel, and Turkey, and is currently a member of the field team at Sardis, where he is conducting an architectural study of one of the city’s Roman gates. His dissertation, supported by a 2021-2022 Fulbright grant, explores the impact of architectural knowledge transmission on the design and construction of theater buildings in Rome’s northwestern provinces.
